AT THE SIXTH LAW AND RELIGION RESEARCH MEETING

The International Colloquium on Law and Religion is going to occur during The Sixth Law and Religion Research Meeting and will be organized by the Brazilian Center of Studies in Law and Religion (Federal University of Uberlandia).

The Colloquium will take place in the city of Uberlandia, Brazil on 04 June 2019.

The general theme of the Colloquium is “Dignity, Rights and Religion: Exploring the Role of Human Dignity in the Adjudication of Freedom of Religion or Belief”. Papers discussing the relation between human rights, religion and human dignity are most welcome, including the analysis of legal cases and theoretical approaches.

The event will feature the special institutional partnership of UN Human Rights - The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR, Geneva) and the Human Dignity Initiative. On this occasion, we will discuss and present the translation of important documents, including the Beirut Declaration on Faith for Rights, the Rabat Plan of Action and the Punta del Este Declaration on Human Dignity for Everyone Everywhere.

The Law and Religion Research Meetings are part of the United Nations Academic Impact Program (UNAI) and seek to promote its guiding principles, particularly "Principle 6 - Human Rights", "Principle 7 - Intercultural Dialogue" and "Principle 9 - Peace and Conflict Resolution". The meetings also seek to contribute to the advancement of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, especially "SDG 10 - Reduced Inequalities" and "SDG 16 - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions".


Participation and abstract submission:

  • The submission deadline for international participants is 15 April 2019.

  • Those who are interested in participating are encouraged to send by e-mail an expression of interest to encontro@direitoereligiao.org as soon as possible.

  • There will be no registration fee for international participants. However, travel, accommodation, meals, and other expenses are to be covered by the participant.

  • A letter of acceptance will be sent by e-mail to those who have their proposal approved.


The abstract:

  • An abstract clearly summarizing the arguments should be submitted before deadline.

  • The abstract should be written and presented in English, Spanish or Portuguese, and should convey the main results of a research-in-progress or a completed research paper related to the event broad theme.

  • Proposal structure: title, authors’ names (up to three) followed by their e-mails, an abstract (from 300 to 500 words), 03 to 05 keywords, references and a short personal biography (of no more than 100 words). Please, do not include figures, tables or charts.

  • By submitting the abstract, the author authorizes its publication in the event proceedings.

  • The proposal should be sent to encontro@direitoereligiao.org.

  • Successful applicants will be notified within 10 days after the abstract submission.
